ABOUT Christina Manning

After advancing her PB for 100m hurdles to 12.62, which temporarily led the world rankings, Christina’s form in 2017 was rewarded with her first selection for a major senior championships. At the World Championships in London, she finished fifth in 12.74, missing a medal by only two hundredths of a second.

Her third place at the US Championships in June had given her a berth to the World Championships, coming through one of the toughest selection challenges in the sport, such is the standard of the discipline in the United States.

At college and national level Christina Manning showed herself to be a class act and a very exciting sprint prospect.

In 2012 she became NCAA champion in 60m hurdles where she recorded a time of 7.91. And her impressive form continued to the 100m hurdles where her run of 12.89 won the NCAAs in Des Moines in June.

Named the Most Outstanding Female Senior Athlete at Westlake High School, she was state champion in the outdoor 100m hurdles and long jump and indoor 55m hurdles.

After that her talent continued to flourish. 2010 was her breakout year on the national stage. She earned All American honours in the 60m hurdles at the NCAA Indoor Championships. She was Big Ten champion in the 60m hurdles (8.25) and was runner up in both 60m (7.40 – 3rd best in OSU indoor history) and 200m where her 23.56 was 2nd best in OSU indoor history. She contributed an amazing 32 points to the Buckeyes’ total team score of 88!

Eye-catching performances followed outdoors too. PBs of 13.10 in the 100m hurdles and 11.54 in the 100m at the Jesse Owens Classic were a standout performances along with her part in the victorious 4x100m relay team at the same event. And just for good measure she achieved a further PB in winning the long jump at the Auburn Tiger Classic with a leap of 5.88m

Further indoor progress and accolades in 2011 included being named USTFCCCA Great Lakes Track Athlete of the Year, Big Ten Track Athlete of the Year and Athlete of the Championships. With seven first-place finishes throughout the season Christina also helped Ohio State to its first conference title in programme history.

Outdoors her new PB of 12.72 in the 100m hurdles earned her a National runner-up place and first-team All American honours. Christina also captured Big Ten titles in the 100m, 100m hurdles and 4x100m. Her 14 first places and runner-up finishes helped Ohio State to its first outdoor title.
