Emily Diamond took up athletics while attending Bristol Grammar School. While there she won the junior girls’ race at the Bristol Schools’ Cross Country Championships. In 2009, representing Avon, she won the English Schools’ senior girls’ 200m title.

Diamond was selected for Great Britain team at the 2011 World University Games held in China. Competing in the 200m she progressed to the final and finished eighth. Diamond also ran a leg of the 4x400m, winning a bronze medal.

At the 2010 World Junior Championships in Moncton, Canada, Diamond made the final of the 200m and finished sixth with 23.62.

At the 2012 UK Olympic Trials, Diamond ran a time of 53.36 to finish fourth in the final of the 400m. This result lead to her being selected Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London as part of the squad for the women’s 4x400m relay.

Emily ran her 400m PB of 51.23 in June 2016 at the Laufnacht und Sparkassen Gala (GER). Just a few weeks later Diamond took gold at the British Olympic Trials, running a time of 51.94 and securing her Olympic individual selection in the 400m. Emily ran both the 400m and th 4x400m at the 2016 Olympic Games where she made the semi-finals in the 400m, clocking a time of 51.49 and brought home the bronze medal in the 4x400m after running leg three with a split time of 51.15.

She enjoyed a good start to 2017 with a Worlds qualifier of 51.85 in Gainesville before securing World Championships selection with silver at the trials. Although going out in her heat at the World Championships individually, she helped Britain to silver behind USA in the 4x400m.
