ABOUT Lynsey Sharp

Lynsey came to national attention when she was selected for the London 2012 GB Olympic Team, having won European under-23 silver the previous year.

She was awarded gold at the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki after the doping disqualification of an athlete who finished ahead of her. For the second year in a row, she was honoured with the title ‘Athlete of the Year’ by Scottish Athletics.

Her win in the 2015 ISTAF meeting in Berlin in 1:57.71 took her to third on the UK all-time list and she improved by two hundredths when finishing sixth at the Rio Olympics.

What followed was another great year as she confirmed her status as one of the best athletes on the world circuit and reached her second global final in two years. Her highlights included a fourth in the London Diamond League, just after which she took her season’s best to 1:58.01 in placing sixth in Monaco. Back in London, she continued her rich vein of form in reaching the World Championships, where she finished eighth.

The law graduate from Edinburgh Napier University has fine athletics heritage – her father, Cameron Sharp, was a GB sprinter and her mother, Carol, also competed for Scotland in the 800m at the 1986 Commonwealth Games.
