ABOUT Lynsey Sharp

Lynsey Sharp came to national attention when she was selected for the London 2012 GB Olympic Team.

This was the latest highlight in a career that is on the up and up.

2012 also saw Lynsey pick up Silver at the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki and, for the second year in a row, she was honoured with the title ‘Athlete of the Year’ by Scottish Athletics. This fantatsic run was upgraded to Gold in April 2013 when original winner Yelena Arzhakova was declared a doping cheat. It is not how Lynsey, or any athlete, would like to win a prestigious gold medal, but it does mean that she is a major championship winner at the age of 22 and the future looks very bright for the Birmingham based athlete.

The law graduate from Edinburgh Napier University has fine athletics heritage – her father Cameron Sharp was a GB sprinter and her mother Carol also competed for Scotland in the 800m at the 1986 Commonwealth Games.

She has worked extensively with former World Champion Liz McColgan and is looking ahead to 2013 with great excitement and optimism to building on her track achievements and medals to this point which include Bronze  in Commonwealth Youth Games and European U23 Championships and her superb and much deserved European Athletics Championships 800m title.
