ABOUT Michelle-Lee Ahye

The double Trinidad and Tobago national record-holder goes to the World Championships in London as a strong contender for gold. Second on the world 100m rankings only to Olympic champion Elaine Thompson, her 10.82 PB this year suggests she will be in the reckoning, while she will also be in the hunt for medals at 200m.

Since competing at the 2007 IAAF World Youth Championships, Michelle-Lee Ahye has climbed to the top of the world senior ranks. She enjoyed a great breakthrough in 2014 when improving her 100m PB from 11.06 to 10.85. Also that year she was sixth over 60m at the World Indoors and second in the 100m at the Continental Cup.

In 2015, she was fifth in the 100m at the World Championships, where she helped her country to bronze medals in the 4x100m relay.

At the 2016 Rio Games, she was sixth in both the 100m and 200m, in the latter advancing her national record to 22.25 in the semi-finals.

However, after a great 2017, she will be hoping for more at the major championships.
