Brandon claimed gold in the high jump with a personal best of 2.32m, medalling for the first time in a senior international meet with the highest jump by a Australian in 20 years since Tim Forsyth leap with the same height. It was a tenacious competition by Starc, as he missed a height at 2.24m, 2.27m and 2.30m then  utilised the home support to stellar effect, clearing the bar to a personal-best effort, ahead of the Bahamas’ Jamal Wilson and Canadian bronze medallist Django Lovett.
